Nature Program

Each week, on our designated “Nature Day(s), we take your children outdoors (weather permitting) and we learn through
nature. A nature story time and a nature project enable the children to learn through hands on experiences, exploration,
curiosity and discovery.

Your child’s schedule during “Nature Day” looks the same as usual with the exception of center time. During that time,
they will come with their teachers and we meet together where the children are given the opportunity to observe,
appreciate, and interact with the natural world that surrounds them.

During the fall and spring months, your child will be learning about seeds and planting and watching them grow. They will
learn to take care of vegetables and plants. They will also be working in our greenhouse and raised beds.

There’s a reason they call it the Great Outdoors:

    Body

  • Outdoor play increases fitness levels and builds active, healthy bodies, and important strategy in helping the onein three American kids who are obese get fit
  • Spending time outside raises levels of Vitamin D, helping protect children from future bone problems, heart
disease, diabetes and other health issues
  • Being “out there” improves distant vision and lowers the chance of nearsightedness
    Mind
  • Exposure to natural settings may be widely effective in reducing ADHD symptoms
  • Schools with environmental education programs score higher on standardized test in math, reading, writing and
    listening
  • Exposure to environment-based education significantly increases student performance on tests of their critical
    thinking skills

  • Spirit

  • Children’s stress levels fall within minutes of seeing green spaces

  • Play protects children’s emotional development whereas loss of free time and a hurried lifestyle can contribute
    to anxiety and depression
  •
